MISSION STATEMENT
To offer an alternative to the soccer families of Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, and surrounding communities by providing their kids affordable fun, healthy competition, an atmosphere of teamwork, and a sense of personal accomplishment while minimizing soccer burnout.
WHAT IS GLENED?
Competitive: Outdoor and indoor training sessions are designed & organized to continually advance a player’s foot-skills, improve fitness, and teach team-oriented tactics. Two options of league play are available, so teams can elect to limit travel to nearby towns by playing in the Metro-East league (SISL), or a St. Louis league can be selected if an even higher level of competition is desired. The GlenEd board can help with assessments and recommendations.
Flexible: Parents typically want their kids to participate in more than one sport or extra-curricular activity. While GlenEd strives to provide a high level soccer competition, the importance of participating in other hobbies, clubs, and sports throughout the year is clearly understood. Elected team representatives are given primary control over how the team operates, which includes the quantity of training sessions offered, when practices are held, and specific tournaments in which to participate.
Affordable: Reasonable club fees pay for 20 Illinois league games, one fall and one spring weekend tournament, approximately 60 indoor and outdoor practices, use of quality home / away uniforms, player’s bags, use of club equipment and team practice gear, and the use of field facilities. Some teams elect to collect extra funds for indoor soccer play, special formal training events, additional tournaments, etc. Discounts for multiple participants as well as confidential financial assistance are available. Team coaches, managers, and board members are volunteer positions.
WANT TO COACH / BRING IN A NEW TEAM TO GLENED?
In an effort to better serve our growing community, GlenEd is eager to form new teams and welcome those interested in coaching. GlenEd is able to offer reimbursements for expenses associated with soccer education and licensing in preparation for team training. The Director of Players & Coaches, as well as other senior coaches, are available to assist in developing a training system suitable for a particular age group. Typically, a coach spends about 4.5 field hours and 2 hours of prep time each week. Team managers help with procedure, paperwork and budgetary aspects of running the team.
